Upcoming Books by Mark J Horacek
Welcome to Sneak Peeks — a place to glimpse the work forming just beyond the horizon.
Three major projects are now taking shape. Human Concerns in an Age of AI asks how human beings can think clearly, live meaningfully, and act responsibly in a world of accelerating complexity. A second emerging work looks further ahead, exploring the possible futures now being shaped by technology, inequality, climate pressure, social change, and the choices still before us. And Veilspine Awakens, the next movement in Survivors of the Silent Earth, imagines what may happen when the pressures we ignore become the world we must survive.
These works differ in form, but they are joined by a common concern: the search for truth, discernment, responsibility, and the preservation of human life in changing times.
Human Concerns in an Age of AI
Human Concerns in an Age of AI is a forthcoming work about meaning, discernment, and human responsibility in a rapidly changing technological world. Rather than treating AI only as a tool, threat, or technical achievement, the book asks a deeper question: what happens to human life when complexity accelerates beyond ordinary unaided judgment?
The cover reflects the central movement of the book: a path between human concern and technological transformation. One side evokes lived human reality — warmth, place, responsibility, uncertainty, and hope. The other suggests the growing presence of artificial intelligence, automation, data, and systems of increasing complexity. The path between them represents discernment: the difficult but necessary work of finding a wise way forward.
This book is currently in final publication review.
Survivors of the Silent Earth—Veilspine Awakens
Veilspine Awakens continues the world of Survivors of the Silent Earth, carrying the story beyond the Reader’s Edition into a deeper and more dangerous confrontation with the transformed Earth.
As new threats rise from beneath Veilspine Lake and the wilderness reveals powers older and stranger than the survivors understand, humanity’s fragile place in the world is tested again. The next journey expands the ecological mystery, the creature evolution, the bonds between survivors and guardians, and the question at the heart of the series: whether humanity can adapt without trying once more to dominate.

Can We Survive the Future?
Beyond Human Concerns in an Age of AI, another question has begun to form.
What happens when the major pressures of our time no longer arrive separately, but begin to overlap — technology, wealth, work, climate, population, trust, care, meaning, and the fragile systems that hold ordinary life together?
This future work is still taking shape. It will not begin with certainty or prediction, but with evidence, patterns, and consequence. It will ask what may happen if current trends darken, what may happen if society adapts only partially, and what may still be possible if human beings choose wisdom before crisis makes the choice for them.
For now, it remains a mystery on the horizon.
But the question is already alive:
What kind of future are we building — and what kind of work might still preserve human life?
